    Pros

Get out on time and fun area

    Cons

No more pay no room for growth

  2. Current Employee, more than 10 years

    Pros

Mexicali Blues is family owned and operated. Mexicali provides a high quality of work life and is a green company. Mexicali operates responsibly both here and abroad while working with our artisans. I've always felt like a valued member of the team. I started out as a part time sales associate and 18 years later I am the general manager and still there is room to grow.

    Cons

I spend a lot of money on our merchandise, but we get great employee discounts.

  4. Former Employee, more than 3 years

    Pros

Literally just the coworkers—made so many good friends throughout the state while working at Mexicali.

    Cons

No upward mobility, only cost-of-living raises unless you FIGHT for it—even then, low compensation. Everyone is expected to do more than just what their job title is because nearly every store location and warehouse department is understaffed. Owners/upper management are nearly always absent, and very demanding, pretty close-minded and often say offensive things about customers and clothing models pertaining to body types, tattoos and piercings, etc. Air of toxic positivity to "maintain the cheerful vibes of the company culture."

    Cons

  10. Former Employee, more than 1 year

    Pros

Interesting and beautiful products; plenty of opportunity to learn about the merchandise and the people who make it. Fun group of people to work with; excellent communication between employees, regardless of level. It always felt like a close-knit family. Good pay (starting is above minimum wage) and good benefits and great employee discount (40% at the time of my employment). Easygoing atmosphere; I never felt intimidated or nervous about asking for a particular day off or if I could trade a shift with a coworker. All-in-all one of the best places I ever had the pleasure to work at.

    Cons

Inconsistent schedule — some seasons are absolutely demanding while others demand you pick up a second job. However, that's more a con of working in the retail industry rather than this specific company. Must be working full-time to receive benefits (was the policy at the time of my employment).

    Very unique and fun!

    Business Outlook

    Pros

It's technically a small business, centered in Maine, so you have the benefits of being close to the owners and higher-ups. Everyone is treated fairly and everyone working there has similar tastes in music, interest in culture, etc so it's easy to make friends- even sometimes with customers. Pay is better than retail chains, too. You can wear your own clothes and be yourself!

    Cons

It's retail so you've got the monotony of customer service at times. Plus break times aren't consistent with other retail employers. In an 8-9 hour shift, you only get one half hour break. No fifteen minute breaks. So those 10 hour holiday season shifts can be tiring. Work-life balance during peak sales times, such as Christmas, can be rough but that's retail.
